NEW COLLEGE WORCESTER
Is a non maintained special school and college for students aged 11 to 19 who are blind or visually impaired.
With your help we are looking to create a brand new sensory garden within the College grounds, a self-contained area with a variety of elements to engage and stimulate the children.
Using a variety of scented plants to trigger a wide range of emotions, familiar fruits and vegetables recognisable by taste, the feel of gravel on their feet and wind chimes in their ears. An area with raised planting beds and a pond to encourage wildlife, all in a safe, calm environment.
“Since the age of 16, I have always had a passion for optometry; and being able to correct vision and to help people see better I find very rewarding. We all take our sight for granted whether it may be looking at our mobile phones or watching fireworks in the sky, but what happens when sight fails us and vision can no longer be corrected? The human body naturally enhancing our other senses to compensate and this is why our project with NCW is so important to me.”

“I have been manufacturing glasses for Opticians and more recently making glasses directly for the customer at the Vision Factory for many years. Still, to this day, I get a lot of satisfaction out of making every pair of glasses to be the very best that they can be. This is particularly so with more complex prescriptions by making them look as thin and as nice as possible for the customer. So when deciding upon a local charity to support, it was a natural choice to go with a sight charity. By doing this, I can continue to try and make a positive difference for people and their sight and the Sensory Garden at New College Worcester deserves all the support it can get”
